The downturn in residential construction will leave Australia short of housing for a decade, says the report – Australian Construction Outlook 2008 – Residential Building from Macromonitor, which forecasts a subdued year for 2008-09, with a 10% rise in housing construction in 2009-10. The upswing could last three years but this activity would not be enough to turn the long term shortage of housing, which was most acute in NSW and Queensland.The Australian Financial review, Page 59, 5th June 2008.
